Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond takes an entertaining, insightful and often humorous look at the Hollywood Indian, exploring the portrayal of North American Natives through a century of cinema and examining the ways that the myth of “the Injun” has influenced the world’s understanding…and misunderstanding…of Natives.

Discussion -panelists:

  • Patricia Logan, MATC advisor to the Native American Student Movement (Ho-Chunk Nation)
  • Carson Singer, Principal of Spotted Eagle Alternative High School (Crow)
  • Darren Kroenke, Executive Director of Spotted Eagle Alternative High School (Brothertown)

Audience is invited to participate in the open discussion that follows the film  preview.
Parking in DW underground lot is $1.00 for those attending the event.

This is the 4th. season of MPTV Community Cinema.  It is a free monthly (Sept-May) screening series that uses the power of film to inspire discussion on important social issues and connect communities.  Events are always on the first Thursday of the month (Sept-May) at 6:30 pm.

Healthcare: The Wisconsin Prescription

The stories of real people facing serious healthcare challenges are presented, including a mother with brain cancer, a man with multiple sclerosis, and a young cancer survivor who cannot get health insurance for herself or her employees. Karen Timberlake, Secretary of Health Services for Wisconsin, and State Senators Karen Vinehout and Glenn Grothman–who represent differing viewpoints on the Healthcare debate in the Wisconsin legislature are also interviewed. Following the film screening, the audience will have an opportunity to participate in open discussion with individuals featured in the film.
